About the team

We support the Thales organization by

  • Conducting scientific and technical studies.
  • Supporting sales activities through the analysis of operational scenarios and preparing these analyses for customer consumption.
  • Concept development for new and existing products.
  • Algorithm development for new and existing products.
  • Drawing up requirements for new product development.
  • Validation of performance figures during sea trials

About the job


As a Software Engineer Modelling and Simulation (SWE) you are part of the multi-disciplined Operational Analysis team. The Operational Analysis team is the authority within Thales for simulation and analysis of operational performance of current and future defence systems. The team develops, uses and maintains a custom simulation framework to support customer requests and drive innovation. The framework includes complex models of high tech sensor and weapon systems and associated analysis tools.

The primary task of the SWE is to support the software used in this simulation environment. The job involves a lot of interaction with colleagues from within and outside the Operational Analysis team. Enthusiasm and pleasure in the work is essential. Within the team you will be supported to (further) develop the programming skills and acquire the domain knowledge in the field of modelling and simulations.

In the Operational Analysis group, you will:

  • Interact with out System Analysis Engineers, understanding their work and needs in order to recognize, design and implement improvements to the simulation software
  • Actively contribute to long term development of the simulation software
  • Recognize and act on possibilities to improve on efficiency, usability and stability of the simulation software
  • Develop and maintain the simulation software (bug fixes, updates of third-party software dependencies)


About you

  • A relevant technical degree (HBO, WO)
  • Excellent programming and troubleshooting skills preferably on following subjects/technologies Matlab/Simulink, Java/C(++)/Python/Fortran, Linux, Distributed simulations
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (git, Jenkins, CMake, Maven, Nexus)
  • Experience with software maintenance
  • Ability to communicate SW suppliers concerning upgrades and bugs
  • Able to obtain an in-depth understanding of modelling and simulation software
  • Pragmatic and solution focused
  • A high level of enthusiasm
  • Able to understand user needs and translate these into implementations
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Option for occasional travel abroad
