DevOps Engineer for Space domain

Thales Systems Romania (TSR) is now developing its capacities in SW development for Space applications in collaboration with Thales Alenia Space (TAS).

Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), is a key European player in space telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, exploration and orbital infrastructures. Because of its unrivaled expertise in dual (civil/military) missions, constellations, flexible payloads, altimetry, meteorology and high-resolution optical and radar instruments.

Job summary

Thales Systems Romania is setting up a team to support Thales Alenia Space software engineering team. The software development will be done according to Agile methodology (SCRUM). In order to support this DevOps activities are needed to build and maintain the CI/CD pipelines, to provide infrastructure as code and to maintain and monitor the local hardware needed for integration and test.

  • Provide guidance and support to development teams on how to automate application and infrastructure deployment
  • Support, maintain and improve our local integration environments
  • Help to diagnose and resolve issues within our integration and development environments
  • Keep up to date and learning new technologies to improve yourself and the capabilities of the team
  • Create tools and scripts (Ansible receipts) that help automate software deployments
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Work with an automation first mindset and work to instill that in others

Required competencies:

  • Proficient in Ansible or similar experience in other configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, Salt);
  • Knowledge of CI/CD engineering practices (eg. Jenkins, and “pipeline-as-code” implementations (Jenkinsfile, YAML);
  • Knowledge of build-systems (Maven, Gradle, Ant);
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or similar
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English
  • Working knowledge of Centos/RHEL or Debian;
  • Availability to travel

Would be a plus:

  • Knowledge of a scripting language (Python, Groovy, Ruby or similar);
  • Knowledge of networking stacks (switching, routing) and underlay/overlay networking
  • Knowledge of auditing or security implementations is a plus (SELinux, AppArmor, AIDE, Auditd, etc.);
  • Knowledge of virtualization (VMWare, vCenter, hypervizors) ;
  • Knowledge of containerization (containerd, Docker, LXC/LXD);
  • French language
